Albert Hofmann, Inventor of LSD, Embarks on Final Trip:

Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann, inventor of LSD, died yesterday at the age of 102, just 10 days after the 55th anniversary of his notorious bicycle trip while tripping on “acid”. Hofmann, who suffered a heart attack at home in Basel, Switzerland, was the first person to synthesize lysergic acid diethylamide, better known as LSD, and the first human known to experience its mind-bending effects.

Imagine the full, long life he could have had if didn’t mess with LSD.

Mr. Richard Ohene

Another bank scam gets past the spam filter.

Apparently, Mr. Ohene’s bank can’t afford a spell checker…

Greetings to you,

I humbly seek your services in a confidential matter regarding some funds, Five Million Eight Hundred and Fifty Thousand US Dollars ($5,850,000.00) unaccounted for in our bank, Barclays Bank of Ghana , Takoradi Branch, during the last 2007 external audit. As the Regional Manager in the Bank, I deposited this fund in an ESCROW CALL ACCOUNT at our Headquarters. I need the assistance of a trustworthy person whom I shall fill in as the original beneficiary of these funds. Your major role would be to provide a bank account where the funds will be transferred. You will have 14% of these funds as your share at the end of this transaction.

<sarcasm>
And the best way to find a “trustworthy person” is to randomly choose someone on the internet.
</sarcasm>

What prompted this deal is because I have a 9-year old daughter who has leukemia, blood cancer. She needs a bone marrow transplant to save her life. I want this transplanting done in any good hospital in your country. I shall resign from my job and bring my family to start a new life in your country when this transfer is done.

Notice how Mr. Ohene never mentions my country.

You are the only one I have contacted for this business and if you can assist me, please get back to me so that I shall give you more detail on how to proceed.

It’s pretty clear I’m not the only one Mr. Ohene has contacted.

Sincerely,
Mr. Richard Ohene

I’ll give “Mr. Ohene” some credit, this scam email actually came from a computer in Ghana.

Michael Medved: Idiot

(via Fundies Say the Darndest Things!)

Americans Are Right To Resist An Atheist As President:

Just as the Queen plays a formal role as head of the Church of England, the President functions as head of the “Church of America” – that informal, tolerant but profoundly important civic religion that dominates all our national holidays and historic milestones. For instance, try to imagine an atheist president issuing the annual Thanksgiving proclamation. To whom would he extend thanks in the name of his grateful nation –-the Indians in Massachusetts?

“Church of America” — Here that whirring sound? That’s the Founding Fathers spinning in their graves.

that informal, tolerant but profoundly important civic religion - Tolerant? Tolerant of everyone except atheists, agnostics, and non Judeo-Christian religions.

To whom would he extend thanks in the name of his grateful nation — Here’s some possibilities. Also, one could argue Thanksgiving and other holidays would do just fine without the President issuing proclamations.

Medved should go back to being a terrible movie critic…
