America’s 75 Worst Commutes
#45, I-270, St. Louis Weekly hours of bottleneck congestion: 89 Worst bottleneck: Southbound, Dougherty Ferry Rd/Exit 8 Length of worst bottleneck: 1.26 mi Weekly hours of congestion on worst bottleneck: 15 Speed of worst bottleneck when congested: 24.5 mph
Commuter Buzz: “Replacement of the current design with the diverging diamond interchange will not only improve the flow of traffic along the 270-70 corridor, but it will also be a national example of innovation in highway safety and design,” Maryland Heights Councilwoman Mary Nichols told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Fortunately, my daily commute on I-270 is north of Exit 8, plus I’ve chosen my work hours to avoid the worse of the traffic.
It’s hard to believe the St. Louis Rams have actually won a Super Bowl in the last decade…

K-HITS 96 RESTRUCTURES PROGRAMMING TO OFFER MORE MUSIC
Station Releases Corcoran, Kruze and Others to Pare Costs, Boost Ratings.
St. Louis, October 26, 2009…… K-HITS 96, St. Louis’ only radio station playing exclusively classic rock hits from four decades, today announced a major shake-up in its daily programming. Effective immediately, The Showgram, K-HITS morning talk show, will be discontinued and replaced with an all-music format hosted by St. Louis radio veteran Rick Sanborn. Changes are also being made to the station’ss late afternoon show. Long-time station personalities Katy Kruze and Carl “the Intern” Middleman have been let go. While J. C. Corcoran will not be on the air he remains under contract with Emmis Radio until December 2010. Showgram personalities John Ulett and Laurie Mac will remain in mornings on K-Hits with Rick Sanborn.
This sucks. It’s like being a moron is a prerequisite for going into radio station management.

COURT RULING: St. Louis, MO – October 26, 2009
St. Louis, MO (AP) – A seven year old boy was at
the center of a St. Louis courtroom drama yesterday
when he challenged a court ruling over who should
have custody of him.
The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents
and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt,
in keeping with the child custody law and
regulations requiring that family unity be
maintained to the degree possible.
The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that
his aunt beat him more than his parents and he
adamantly refused to live with her. When the judge
suggested that he live with his grandparents, the
boy cried out that they also beat him.
After considering the remainder of the immediate
family and learning that domestic violence was
apparently a way of life among them, the Judge took
the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to
propose who should have custody of him.
After two recesses to check legal references and
confer with child welfare officials, the judge
granted temporary custody to the St. Louis Rams, who
the boy firmly believes are not capable of beating
anyone.

The Saint Louis Rams bring “bad” to new levels of badness. This team just oozes rottenness from every bad play… Simply bad beyond all infinite dimensions of possible badness.
Well maybe not that bad, but lord, they aren’t good.*

September 1, 2009:
- The St. Louis Cardinals magic number is 22.
- The Cleveland Indians magic number is 44.
I leave it up to the reader to ponder the cosmic significance of the Indians’ magic number being twice that of the Cardinals’ on this date…
Not quite 3 digits, but close…
